PushBlack Chronicles

Daaa Yankees Lose

With limited resources and endless content possibilities, organizations can only test a small percentage of potential content ideas.

TL;DR: Content creation bottlenecks severely limit how many ideas nonprofits can test, missing opportunities to discover truly exceptional content.

This is Week 3 of "The PushBlack Chronicles" – a 6-week journey through the marketing challenges that inspired us to create Chorus AI Marketing Studio. Each week, I'm sharing a real story from my time co-building PushBlack to the largest Black nonprofit media company, connecting it to the broader challenges facing nonprofit marketers, and showing how we've built Chorus to solve these exact problems. Missed previous installments? Catch up here.

At PushBlack, we discovered that the topic of a story was the single biggest driver of engagement – often creating 4x or even 10x differences in performance.

This insight was gold, but we faced a critical limitation: we could only test a small fraction of the content ideas we had. The challenge wasn't knowing what generally worked – we had solid insights about content structure, length, and storytelling approaches – but we couldn't predict which specific Black history stories would resonate with our audience. This was nearly impossible to predict in advance.

Each story required significant research and writing time, so we were severely limited in how many we could produce. It was like baseball – we knew how to set ourselves up for success with good form and technique, but each story was still an at-bat that might or might not connect. And the more at-bats we could take, the better our chances of hitting home runs.

Speaking of baseball, if you've been following the MLB playoffs, you saw a perfect example of this principle in action. My hometown Toronto Blue Jays just eliminated the Yankees and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. gave us this iconic moment. Sometimes you just can't predict which moments will resonate most powerfully – you need to be in the game taking those swings!

The Content Creation Bottleneck

Every nonprofit marketing team faces this same challenge. With limited resources and endless content possibilities, organizations can only test a small percentage of potential content ideas. Even when you know what generally works based on past performance, you can't possibly create all the variations you'd like to test to find the true winners.

Most organizations are forced to choose between quality and quantity, either producing fewer high-quality pieces or sacrificing quality to increase volume. The result is that nonprofits miss opportunities to discover truly exceptional content that could dramatically increase engagement and donations.

Automated Content Creation and Testing

Chorus AI Marketing Studio transforms your content creation from a bottleneck to a strategic advantage. Our platform uses your historical performance data to understand what works for your audience, then helps you automatically generate multiple high-quality content variations aligned with those insights.

Instead of manually creating a handful of content pieces, you can rapidly generate and test dozens of variations to find the true winners. The platform maintains your brand voice and quality standards while dramatically increasing your testing capacity.

For content types that are hard to predict – like which specific stories will resonate most – you can truly create as many variations as you need. It's like getting 10x more at-bats without requiring 10x more resources. This is especially valuable for platforms like Meta and Google Ads, where creating numerous variations of assets that you can mix and match is critical to maximizing performance and finding winning combinations.
